Acceptable use policy
Last updated 31 October 2026
SendText is for businesses texting people who want to hear from them. This policy says what that means in practice. It's part of our terms of service, and it protects your customers, your reputation, and every other business whose texts travel the same networks.
1Only text people who agreed
- Send marketing texts only to people who clearly agreed to get them from your business, for example by ticking an unticked box, signing up on your SendText page, or asking you in person. Or to your own existing customers who gave you their number while buying from you, were offered a simple way to say no at the time, and haven't said no since (the "soft opt-in"), and only about your own similar products and services.
- Keep a record of how and when each person agreed. When you import a list, tell us truthfully how people signed up.
- Don't use bought, rented, borrowed, shared or scraped lists, numbers collected for something else (such as delivery updates), or numbers generated at random or in sequence.
- Don't add people who previously opted out, unless they've clearly opted back in.
- Service texts (order updates, appointment reminders, replies to someone who texted you) don't need marketing consent, but mustn't be used to sneak in offers.
2Say who you are, and make stopping easy
- Every text must make clear which business it's from.
- Every marketing text must say how to opt out (for example "Reply STOP to opt out"). SendText adds this line for you; don't remove it from marketing texts.
- Don't hide or obstruct opt-outs, or ask people to opt out some other, harder way.
- Use a sender name that is your own business or brand. Don't use a name or number that impersonates someone else, such as a bank, delivery firm, government body or another business.
3Be considerate
- Keep to sensible times. SendText's quiet hours stop marketing texts going out late at night or early in the morning; don't work around them.
- Don't text the same people so often that it becomes a nuisance. Our weekly limit is there to help.
- Reply to the people who text you back, or say clearly that replies aren't monitored.
4What you can't send
Don't use SendText to send, link to or promote:
- anything illegal, or that encourages or helps someone break the law;
- phishing, scams, fake prizes, requests for passwords or bank details, or links that hide where they really go;
- malware, or links to sites that host it;
- false, misleading or deceptive claims, including fake urgency, prices or reviews;
- sexual or adult content, or anything aimed at children that isn't suitable for them;
- hate, harassment, threats, or content that discriminates against people;
- gambling, payday or high-cost loans, debt collection or debt management, cryptocurrency, investments or other financial promotions (unless you're authorised to make them and we've agreed in writing);
- tobacco, vapes, prescription medicines, drugs, weapons, or other age-restricted or regulated products;
- political campaigning or fundraising;
- content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or privacy.
Alcohol offers from licensed venues are fine, as long as they follow the law and the advertising codes and aren't sent to anyone under 18.
5Use the service fairly
- Don't try to get around limits, checks or safeguards, or access another business's data.
- Don't share your login, or let anyone use SendText on behalf of a business other than yours.
- Don't resell SendText or send texts for other businesses without our written agreement.
- Don't overload, probe, scrape or attack the service, or use it to test other systems without permission.
- Give accurate information about your business when you sign up and keep it up to date.
6What happens if this policy is broken
We look at opt-out rates, complaints and reports from mobile networks. If something looks wrong, we may ask you for evidence of consent, pause a campaign, limit sending, or suspend your account, as explained in our terms. Serious or repeated breaches end the agreement. Where the law requires, we may report illegal activity to the relevant authorities.
7Report a problem
Got a text through SendText that you didn't sign up for? Reply STOP to the text and you won't hear from that business again. To report it to us, email [email protected] with the sender name and the date. You can also forward unwanted texts to 7726, the free UK network spam reporting service.
